Property Damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey

On August 24, 2017, Tropical Storm Harvey (Harvey) forever left his mark on Texas and our community.

As a result of this disaster, some property owners may be eligible to make installment payments on their 2017 taxes as provided by Section 31.032 of the Texas Property Tax Code. This section allows owners of residential properties (up to 5 units) or some small businesses (less than $5,593,604 in gross receipts for 2016) whose property was destroyed or damaged by this disaster to make four (4) installment payments without incurring penalty and interest. Property owners are required to declare storm damage and sign an installment agreement for each qualified property. Businesses must provide proof of gross receipts. The disaster agreement is not applicable to undamaged property, property not used as a residence or small business, vacant land and/or mineral accounts. Homeowners who suffered damage from Harvey can now report that damage electronically to their county appraisal offices. Reporting property damage now helps the appraisal districts identify the most damaged neighborhoods and properties. Reporting now may also help homeowners in 2018 by possibly reducing the value because of existing damage or ongoing repairs. 2017 Disaster Installment Agreement

I understand the first payment due must be a minimum of one-fourth (1/4) the total amount due (paid by January 31, 2018) and the remaining balance will be made in three (3) equal installments due by March 31, 2018, May 31, 2018 and July 31, 2018. 

I understand there will be a 6% penalty and 1% interest added to each installment that is not paid on or before the due date.  An additional 1% interest will be charged each month your installment remains unpaid, with any additional collection cost that is or may become due under Sections 33.07 or 33.08 of the Texas Property Tax Code. The State’s Property Tax Code sets penalty & interest rates.  

I understand that my mortgage company, as lienholder may receive a copy of this agreement if requested and may verify that payments are being made timely. Your mortgage company may also contact you as to the progress of property repairs. We suggest that you advise your mortgage company of your intent to make installment payments before you enter into this agreement.

I understand that the CCISD Tax Office will not send payment reminders and that by submitting my first payment on or before January 31, 2018, I formally declare that I have received damage and I wish to enter and agree to the terms of the installment agreement.  Payments submitted on unqualified property will be returned and payment in full will be required.
